Toast Online Ordering vs. Your Own Website
Toast online ordering is part of the Toast POS world: a monthly plan, an online ordering add-on, and card processing on each order. It works well if you run your whole restaurant on Toast. Your own website works differently: you pay once, you own the site, and there is no platform fee to keep it running.

What Toast online ordering costs
- A Toast POS plan and Toast hardware.
- Online ordering as an add-on. Toast sets the price in your quote. One third-party guide estimates about $75 a month. Ask Toast for yours.
- Card processing on each online order, set in your Toast contract.
- In July 2023 Toast added a $0.99 fee to online orders, then removed it within weeks after restaurants pushed back.
Who owns what
| Toast online ordering | Your own website | |
|---|---|---|
| Ordering page | Inside Toast's platform | Yours |
| Customer list | In your Toast account | In your own dashboard |
| If you stop paying | Ordering stops | The site keeps working |
| Monthly platform fee | Yes | No |
Can a website send orders into Toast?
Toast only lets approved partners create orders in its POS. We are not a Toast partner. Orders from a Starvega site reach you by email, text alert, and a kitchen alarm screen, not as Toast tickets.
When Toast is the better fit
If you want one company for terminals, payroll, the kitchen screen, and online orders, Toast's all-in-one setup makes sense. If you mainly want commission-free online orders you own, a website is the simpler and cheaper path.
